They are still trying to raise funds to buy the premises they’ve been on for the last 30 years – if you can afford to donate please visit their website  or via this link https://www.justgiving.com/campaign/securingoursanctuary

Please note if you scroll down the page on the link above there are some distressing images of some of the sheep they’ve rescued.  If you scroll further down, you’ll see their remarkable recovery and some of the other animals they’ve saved over the years.

Don’t worry though if you don’t want to see the images, the donation button is on the first page with a picture of a contented looking sheep 😊

Link to Hope

The theme for February on the Link to Hope Elderly and Family Shoebox Calendar is Heat and Light. They suggest items to bring hope and light to peoples lives – candles and holders, hot water bottles, torches, socks and tights.

Unfortunately, I haven’t found any bargains this month.  Ikea are still a good option for tea lights/night lights.  A pack of Tillvaro tealights is £3.50 for 100 tealights each with a burn time of 2.5 hours, or 100 Glimma tealights for £5.00 which have a burn time of 4 hours each.  Some branches of Ikea have 30 scented tealights for £1.00 but unfortunately they don’t have those in stock in my local branch, only packs of 30 for £2.25.   Their cheapest candle in a jar is the scented Adlad one in a small ribbed jar with a 12 hour burn time for 75p.  They do a larger Adlad and several other scented ones for £1.00 with a 20 hour burn time. I did find a Sinnlig scented candle in Ikea with a 40 hour burn time for £1.00 which was my best buy.

Wilko have packs of 100 unscented tea lights for £3.75 with a burn time of up to 3.5 hours, or packs of 30 scented tealights for £2.50.  Asda have packs of 100 unscented tealights for £3.75 with a burn time up to 4 hours, and a pack of 50 scented tealights for £3.25.  Asda also have scented candle jars for £1.00 with a burn time of up to 25 hours.

It’s worth asking if any friends or family received any socks as Christmas presents that they won’t use.  Alternatively Asda are usually good for multipacks of school socks, and also plain ladies socks.

One Below/ One Beyond had 2 litre hot water bottles before Christmas for £2.99 but I haven’t been in recently to see if they still have them – or if they’ve gone up in price.   Asda have a Cosimax hot water bottle available on line for £3.99 but it doesn’t say what size it is, or they have a covered one for £5.00.  They have other designs for £6.00.

I haven’t found any wind up torches on sale – the Range no longer have the ones Mags mentioned last year, wish I’d bought more now 😊.

This month’s Bargains.

Only one this month – Hobbycraft had a set of 20 Christmas pencils with large shaped erasers on top, along with a small colouring book and pencil sharpener for £2.00.

Till next month – hope you find lots of bargains to help you fill your shoebox(es) and find ways of fundraising to help The Farm Animal Sanctuary and other animal charities close to your heart.
